We Believe Pricing Shouldn’t Be a Mystery
Most homeowners have no idea what tree work is supposed to cost. And while no reputable tree company can provide an exact price without seeing the work in person, you shouldn't have to schedule an estimate with no idea what to expect. We believe homeowners should have a general understanding of typical costs, the factors that influence pricing, and what services are included before making a decision.
PRO TIP: When comparing estimates, look beyond the bottom-line price. Make sure you're comparing the same scope of work, cleanup expectations, equipment requirements, and level of service before deciding which proposal offers the best value.
Tree Service Costs: What to Expect
The prices listed here are intended to provide a general starting point. Actual costs vary based on the scope of work, site conditions, and other project-specific factors. For an accurate quote, schedule an on-site estimate.
Tree Removal
Removals start at around $500 for smaller, straightforward trees and can run into several thousand dollars for large, hazardous, crane-assisted, or technically complex jobs.
Your tree removal price typically includes:
- The removal itself
- Brush chipping
- Debris haul-off
- Site cleanup
Stump grinding is usually priced separately unless your proposal says otherwise.
Stump Grinding
Stump grinding generally starts around $300 and is priced by stump diameter, root flare size, the number of stumps, grinding depth, and how easy the stumps are to reach.
Removing the grindings, surface-root grinding, and backfilling with soil may add to the cost.
Tree Trimming and Pruning
With pruning, the biggest factor is the goal. Routine clearance or deadwood removal on an easily accessed tree costs far less than structural or ornamental pruning on a large tree that needs climbing, an aerial lift, or a crane.
Cabling, Bracing, and Structural Support
Cabling and bracing are priced by the number of support systems a tree needs, the hardware involved, and how complex the climbing is.
Plant Health Care (PHC)
PHC pricing depends on the treatment, the material costs, and the size and number of plants being treated. The final price scale with scope, from a single targeted treatment to an ongoing program that protects an entire property.
However, because PHC is preventive, it often costs far less than replacing a mature tree lost to pests or disease.
Emergency and After-Hours Pricing
Emergency and after-hours work usually costs more than scheduled work. That reflects the immediate response, the added hazard, overtime labor, mobilizing equipment outside normal hours, and the disruption to our existing schedule.
For qualifying storm-related damage, we can work directly with your insurance company to help with documentation and payment coordination. You remain responsible for your insurance deductible and any costs your policy doesn't cover.
What Affects the Price of Tree Work
Every tree service project is unique, but certain factors consistently have the greatest impact on cost.
Tree Size, Species, and Condition
Larger and taller trees take more time, more equipment, and more skilled labor to handle safely. A tree that's dead, diseased, or structurally unstable is also harder (and riskier) to work on, which can raise the price.
Proximity to Your Home and Other Structures
A tree in an open field can often be felled in one piece. A tree leaning over your roof, deck, pool, or power lines has to be taken down carefully, piece by piece, often with rigging or a crane. The closer the tree is to something valuable, the more careful (and involved) the work becomes.
Site Access
Access is one of the biggest cost factors, and the one homeowners are most surprised by. Backyard-only access, narrow gates, steep slopes, soft or wet turf, septic systems, and tight lots all make a job harder. Poor access often means extra labor, climbing, specialty rigging, or smaller equipment, all of which add time and cost.
Equipment Requirements
The right equipment keeps a job safe and efficient, but it isn't cheap to own, transport, and operate. Jobs that need a bucket truck, crane, spider lift or other specialized equipment generally cost more because of the added transportation, setup, labor, and expertise involved.
Urgency and Permits
Emergency and after-hours work is priced differently than scheduled work. Some towns in our service area also require permits or arborist documentation before certain trees can be removed, which can add time and cost to a project.
Get a Clear, Written Price for Your Project
The best way to determine the cost of your project is with an on-site evaluation. After assessing the trees and scope of work, we'll provide a detailed written proposal outlining the recommended services and associated costs.
Why Professional Tree Care Costs More
We're upfront about this: Alpine is not the lowest bid. We're a professional, premium tree care company, and our pricing reflects the true cost of doing this work safely and correctly. Tree work is one of the most dangerous trades in the country, so doing it properly takes trained crews, the right equipment, and full coverage.
When you hire Alpine, your price includes things lower-cost operators often leave out, including:
ISA Certified Arborists and NJ Licensed Tree Experts (LTEs) on staff
Proper licensing, full insurance, and workers' compensation coverage
Compliance with ANSI Z133 safety standards and ANSI A300 tree care standards
Professional-grade equipment and ongoing safety training
Detailed written proposals and thorough cleanup
Responsive communication from your first call through project completion
We aim to deliver the kind of seamless, high-touch experience you'd expect from the best service companies anywhere, not just the best tree company in the area.
The Risk of Hiring the Cheapest Bid
A rock-bottom price usually hides real costs. An uninsured crew can leave you liable if someone is hurt on your property, and untrained workers often damage trees or resort to harmful shortcuts like topping.
After a storm, fly-by-night operators may skip permits, cut corners, and leave the cleanup to you. If a company can't show proof of insurance, workers' compensation, and the right credentials, the savings aren't worth the risk.
Discounts, Payments, and Financing
We try to make professional tree care easy to budget for, with discounts where they apply and flexible ways to pay.
